Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
REBT is a therapy style that has many similarities to CBT but places less emphasis on negative thoughts and behaviors. REBT works from the notion that situations and events in life do not lead to the unwanted feelings or symptoms. Rather it is individual’s beliefs or choices that lead to the consequence.
For those individuals addicted to alcohol or drug, REBT will challenge their beliefs that encouraged use in the beginning and are contributing to cravings or yearning for the substance in the present. Our licensed therapists work as both a coach and teammate to help clients recognize and accept their role. Instead of saying, “This person made me do drugs,” REBT would focus on more ownership statements like “I was offered drugs, and I used because I hated the way I was feeling.” In REBT, that faulty belief can be, in part, the root of the problem.
REBT is a useful therapeutic tool because it works alongside other helpful interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, and 12-Step. This can result in a more thorough treatment.
We are a facility with a “small town” feel to it. This means that every licensed therapist and staff member is available to a client and we’re all working out of the same playbook. No one is overlooked. We provide non-judgmental therapy. We don’t believe in guilt trips; we believe in the healing power of recovery and the client’s capacity to change.
