One Size Does Not Fit All

Drug addiction treatment is most effective when it’s tailored to the underlying issues and unique personality of each individual. Cookie-cutter approaches often result in relapse. We offer evidence-based therapies and intervention techniques to improve the odds of success and allow the person with addiction to rebuild or restart their lives.

We believe that addiction is a multifaceted problem, but that it can be treated effectively. We also believe that treatment should be directed to the individual person rather than to their drug(s) of choice. We do not believe there is any one approach that is appropriate for every person. This is why we create a treatment plan for each client based on his or her individual needs and circumstances.

Below is a starting point related to many of the evidence-based therapies we offer for substance use and co-occurring disorders. It is important to understand the different types of therapies available when attempting to find the right options for yourself or someone you love. Feel free to contact us with questions about our therapies and interventions.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is grounded in the idea that negative thinking leads to unwanted feelings and behaviors. We act as a coach and teammate to not just understand the source of negative thoughts that lead to substance use, and the feelings that occur following, but work to change those thoughts and behavior patterns.

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)

REBT is a therapy style that has many similarities to CBT but places less emphasis on negative thoughts and behaviors, and more on the beliefs of the client. Our therapists work with clients to buy into the notion that it is their beliefs system, not the situation, that creates the consequence.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a cognitive therapy with a focus on mindfulness and skills building. Research has found DBT effective for mental health issues. Clients receive a balance of acceptance and encouragement to move in more beneficial directions.

Stages of Change Model

This highly regarded model has been developed over a period of nearly three decades and is effective for supporting intentional behavior change. There are 5 distinct stages: precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance.

Motivational Interviewing

Grounded in expressing empathy, active listening, and rolling with resistance, this therapy helps clients overcome ambivalence. We work with clients to find their own drive and desire to make appropriate choices rather than being forced into it by threats or guilt.

Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)

MET is an approach to help a client begin the planning process to change a desired behavior(s). Addiction typically dictates an individual’s decisions, habits, relationships, and hobbies, they believe they are defined by their addiction or mental illness. MET helps them find a new label for their life and develop a new identity in the process.

Seeking Safety

A therapy option for clients who have a co-occurring substance use and trauma history. We teach effective ways of dealing with the stressors of both ailments. Clinical research shows that Seeking Safety is effective for those that experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, physical or mental abuse.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat substance use disorders and prevent opioid overdose. We advocate for the use of certain anti-craving medications, especially for those struggling with opioid and alcohol use disorders.

Recreation & Art Therapy

There’s an old saying, “all work and no play makes Jack (or Jill) a dull boy (or girl). We provide recreational outings and art and music experiential group, as well as a creative writing. We use recreational outings as a way for clients to reduce stress and help them realize life can be fun without the need to use.
