Our Process

Small Achievements Build Into Greater Success

While we at Cornerstone Recovery Center specialize in Substance Use and Co-occurring Disorders, we use a variation of the Generalist Model in our practice. This means that we meet individuals “where they’re at” and build on the strengths we believe each individual inherently has. We engage with clients, assessing their needs and work toward individualized treatment plan goals.

Our process uses a treatment team approach. Our daily staff meeting sets the tone for the day’s activities and helps all departments – Clinical, Medical, and Housing – work with each other rather than against each other. Our Medical Director is always available for consultation on for clients who need extra help. Additionally, therapists engage in individual and group supervision with the Clinical Director.

Our treatment process is ongoing; as we evaluate progress in treatment we continually assess so that we can build smaller achievements into a larger model of success.

  • Engagement

We engage with the prospective client through effective listening skills with an awareness of individual client needs and expectations. We use open-ended questions so that we can get to know a client on the client’s terms. We strive to recognize the strengths that the client brings to the table as well. We orient the client to the program and review expectations and guidelines.

For those facing criminal charges for the first time or a repeat offender, we developed the Alternative Sentencing Assistance Program (A.S.A.P.) that provides real substance use treatment or co-occurring services as an alternative to incarceration.

  • Assessment

We work toward enhancing our understanding the client’s needs with a “biopsychosocial” approach. This means we look at the medical, psychological, and social circumstances and how they interact for the client. Again, we look at the strengths of the client as well as the problems. Our goal is to build on the strengths and to work toward problems solving.

  • Planning

We work with the client to define and prioritize the problems and determine what needs to be done. We help the client determine personal goals that address those problems. There is a collaborative effort between the client and therapist and other treatment team members to list specific actions that the client will take to solve the problems. This is formalized into an individualized treatment plan.

  • Treatment

We use evidence-based interventions as outlined in the plan. Our approach is based on the idea that we work on our thoughts and behaviors to instill lasting change. Treatment happens in individual, group, and family sessions. We strive to build and strengthen the therapeutic alliance. Clients work at their own pace as they participate in one-on-one counseling as well as peer and therapist-led groups. We monitor progress and revise the plan as necessary. Our goal at Cornerstone Recovery Center is to help a client achieve his/her goals; our mission is to help the client develop a recovery identity.

  • Evaluation

Engagement, assessment, planning, and treatment are all on-going processes that culminate in evaluation. We engage a client to assess for satisfaction. We evaluate how well we are achieving the stated goals. We utilize a continuum of care recognizing that the entire process of discovery in treatment leads to recovery when treatment is completed. And we provide an Alumni Community for continued support for personal recovery.
