When you finish your in-house treatment program at Cornerstone Recovery Center in Ft. Lauderdale, that is not the end of your relationship with us, it is just the beginning. We offer relapse prevention planning programs and monthly alumni events to provide ongoing support even after treatment is completed. Our addiction recovery programs are tailored for you, which also include a plan to help you stay sober after completing treatment.
Programs are customized to provide individual plans based on each person’s recovery needs. This includes relapse prevention and an aftercare plan. Here at Cornerstone, we utilize the successful and respected GORSKI-CENAPS Model for relapse prevention. The GORSKI-CENAPS Model, developed by Terence T. Gorski, consists of a 9-step process for identifying and stopping the early warning signs of relapse. Early warning signs of relapse can be a very slow and subconscious progression that the recovered addict may not recognize on his or her own. Cornerstone’s addiction recovery therapist Barbara Hernandez, MS, LMHC explains, “Using the GORSKI-CENAPS Model for relapse prevention is one of the key tools that help our clients remain clean and sober in the long-term.”
We recently added even more support to our relapse prevention program to help recovering addicts stay sober. Just this past year, we have started an alumni program with monthly meetings. Each month, one alumni member addresses the group and shares his or her story. The speaker from the previous month chooses the next month’s speaker. The inspiring stories of fellow alumni provide inspiration to others in the group. These monthly alumni meetings allow for sharing stories, celebrating sobriety milestones, reconnecting with old friends, and asking for or receiving assistance if needed. In conjunction with the expanded alumni program, we also added a 24-hour alumni hotline that is dedicated to providing our alumni with support, help finding an AA or NA meeting, or just someone to talk to.
Many people struggling with addiction are attracted to Florida since there are many recovery programs all over the state. Some of these very large facilities may not provide the personalized care that some people need to help them through recovery. Our residential facility, located on the Intracoastal Waterway and just steps away from Ft. Lauderdale Beach, offers clients a relaxing and regenerative environment while in our recovery program. We are very proud to have received accreditation by The Joint Commission, and we maintain a 7:1 client-to-staff ratio. The smaller, close-knit atmosphere at Cornerstone works very well for those in need of a facility with a comprehensive aftercare program and relapse prevention planning.
Family and friends of alumni also have access to additional support via our Family Night events that are held twice a month. This program was also implemented this year and has been very successful. Our caring addiction specialists and professionals facilitate a warm and welcoming environment, and family members can gain a better understanding of addiction, treatment, and how to support their loved one through it.
At Cornerstone, the support does not stop after you complete your addiction recovery program. Relapse prevention programs and alumni events are important parts of your continued recovery. We are always here for you no matter what stage you are in during your journey through sobriety. To learn more about our Ft.
